What is the HSPT?

The High School Placement Test is used by academic high schools nationwide to assist with admissions, scholarship selection, and curriculum placement.  It was developed by the Scholastic Testing Service.  The HSPT is made up of five subtests: Verbal Skills, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, and Language.  Often included is an optional writing and science portion as well.  The test is a timed, multiple choice test containing about 298 questions.  Many students find it challenging to finish each section of the test in the time frame given.  There are many specific strategies that can be learned and applied which make the test much easier to answer in a shorter amount of time.  When the students are equipped with these tips and strategies, their confidence increases and their level of stress decreases.
